Research for articles is based on primary sources and often is of a length and detail to span several issues. Topics have included clothing, time, seasonal foods, tobacco, discussion of original receipts, 18th century money, uses of vinegar and poppy seed, hemp, book reviews, and the defining of terms used in 18th century cookbooks. Myths perpetuated by outdated or shallow research and oral history find correction or update in heavily researched articles. The Winter 1999 issue is devoted to children, with articles written by then 9-year-old Courtney and 11-year-old Erin. Clarissa's Corner, a regular feature written by Clarissa Dillon, PhD, covers a variety of subjects such as Scents and Stenches, Ice Cream, and Women's Ornaments. PAST MASTERS News enjoys the readership of national and international subscribers - individuals, historic sites, museums and libraries. Many subscribers have established a tradition of giving subscriptions to their favorite history-related organizations. Newsletters can be purchased in one-
or two-year subscriptions or as individual issues. Economical bound
collections of the first and the second five years of PAST MASTERS News
(1998-2002) have been made available. |
